Hungary Residence Permit by Investment - Hungary Golden Visa

What the Hungarian Investment Residency Offers

The Hungarian government has officially launched a mechanism for granting residency permits to foreign investors. The legal basis is provided by Sections 16 and 22 of the 2023 Act on the general rules for the entry and stay of foreigners. The main objective of this new regulation is to attract external capital and support the country’s economic development.

Programme participants may choose one of the government-approved investment methods: contribution to state-accredited investment funds primarily dealing with real estate operations; purchase of residential property (temporarily unavailable); or a charitable donation to state social initiatives.

Key conditions of the programme:

A residency permit is issued for a ten-year period to all family members simultaneously

A decision on the submitted documents is typically reached within 21 days

Residence permit for 10+10 years

Why It Is Beneficial: Key Advantages

Hungary is a full member of the European Union and the Schengen Area.

As a result, the programme provides the investor and their family with guaranteed European residency status, bringing numerous opportunities: asset protection, access to the European market, and social guarantees.

A resident has the right to work officially, start their own business, and enjoy the full range of state support.

Main benefits for holders of an investment residency permit:

  • Visa-free movement within the Schengen Area.
  • No minimum physical presence requirement in Hungary.
  • A high level of social protection and legal stability.
  • Confidentiality and security of personal and financial interests.

My name is Timur Igamnazarov. I am the CEO and Co-Founder of the Hungarian consulting company IST Hungary, with our head office in Budapest. To maintain residency, investors must maintain their investments in the Hungarian economy for at least five years. If the investment is maintained for ten years, the state automatically extends the residence permit for the next ten-year period.

Investments are fixed for five years → you receive a residence permit for ten years.
Investments remain untouched for ten years → you receive a residence permit for twenty years.
